Family Advocate – Merrimack County Drug Court

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a part time Family Advocate to join our exciting project working with clients who are receiving treatment in the CHOICES program, through Merrimack County Drug Court Program.  The Drug Court Family Advocate is the ‘voice of the family’ on the Drug Court team.  Their role is to provide outreach, information and support to family members/loved ones of Drug Court participants. The Drug Court team’s first priority is the recovery of the participants. This position’s first priority is to advocate for the best interest of the family unit, especially that of the wellbeing of the children.


  • Work to facilitate a trusting a collaborative relationship with family members of Drug Court participants
  • Conduct orientation meetings with new families that includes an overview of the Drug Court program and expectations
  • Connect family members with resources in the community and referrals for treatment.
  • Act as a point of contact between the family and DCYF when appropriate.
  • Provide case management support to family members of Drug Court participants as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Identify and outreach, with appropriate releases of information signed, family members of drug court participants.
  • Ensure 100% of children of drug court participants, regardless of custody status, are reached out to and offered support/referrals for counseling if not already engaged
  • Conduct assessments with family members, including but not limited to Family Strength and Needs Assessments as well as Genograms
  • Have an understanding (or willingness to gain an understanding) of cultural norms and values of families served
  • Co facilitate, with the support of a licensed clinician, the Family Support Group


  • High School Diploma required, some college or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum two years’ professional experience with substance use disorders and/or working with families
  • Lived experience as an family member of someone with substance use disorder preferred
  • Experience with diverse participant population
  • Valid NH Driver’s License, transportation, and proof of insurance preferred
