Peer Support Specialist - Crisis Treatment Center

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking per diem Peer Support Specialists for our new Crisis Treatment Center.  The Peer Support Specialist provides face-to-face support and intervention for individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use disorder crisis.  Peer Support Specialists work on an interdisciplinary treatment team in order to de-escalate the crisis.  This is a 24/7 program with several scheduling options available.  Current openings are weekends 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, and 12am-8am, and Mon-Fri 12am-8am.



  • Assesses individual’s needs and identifies necessary services and supports along with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Assists the individual with accessing those services and supports in a timely manner.
  • Promotes crisis stabilization while drawing from one’s own lived experience in order to engage individuals in crisis. 
  • Provides an advocacy role on the team; approaches issues from a client perspective in order to promote recovery.
  • Provides, along with other team members, interventions to avoid unnecessary hospitalization.
  • Works to stabilize individuals as quickly as practicable and assist them in returning to their pre-crisis level of functioning.
  • Coordinates transportation as needed for individuals from a hospital emergency department, to their apartment, home or other residential setting to support the resolution of a behavioral health crisis. 
  • Performs duties in a manner consistent with established ethical guidelines and demonstrates professional boundaries.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Work experience and/or college level education in the human service field is preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and auto insurance, or access to a reasonable alternative, is preferred.
  • Lived experience and a willingness to share information about personal recovery and successful management of behavioral health challenges is required. 
  • Peer Support certification that is endorsed by the State of NH, or a willingness to pursue certification, is required.
  • Training in crisis intervention and Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) is preferred.
